These artworks, originally designed as postcards, are by the Austrian artist Moriz Jung (1885-1915). Jung was part of a cooperative of artists in Vienna called the Wiener Werkstätte, which ran from 1903-1932, and produced applied artworks of varying levels of luxury, from fine furniture to everyday objects. Nearly one thousand postcards were published by the Wiener Werkstätte by a total of forty-eight different artists and are highly sought after. Jung’s series depicting dogs was procured in 1965 by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, who gave permission for use. They provide an example of Jung’s distinctive style, using thick lines and mixing black with bold colors.
